Mary

Mother of five boys, all of whom still live here. Her working days are over.

Mary came to sanctuary having already raised litter after litter. One entire litter was killed. Through all of it, she kept producing and protecting babies, because that is what was asked of her body and her days.

Her last litter — Ho'o, Maka, I'a, Keali'i, and Nalu — grew up here, and all five of her boys still live at home with her.

These days Mary doesn't have to protect anyone. The kittens are grown, the house is safe, and her time is finally her own. She spends it the way a cat who has earned her rest should: entirely as she pleases.
